CHNC challenge extra for July

Can you believe that we are now nearer to Christmas 2014 than last Christmas - it just doesn't seem possible that it's July already, but it is ... and wise crafters are getting on with Christmas creations while this can be done at a leisurely paced compared to nearer the end of the year. I hope that you will be able to join in with your Christmas designs. So, please click on the link for CHNC challenge extra for July and get those Christmas crafting supplies out and link your entries. And please click on the challenge link to see the lovely designs of the rest of the team.

For my design card I used Little penguin winter - winter bench, kindly supplied by the sponsor, Bugaboo Stamps. I coloured this digitally, and matted on to torn ovals - papers from my offcuts box. The corner pieces were created with a Spellbinders die.

I'm also showing this card for my Patterned Paper July challenge - please click on the link and join in if you can.

Cheerful stamp pad challenge 89: weekend activities, week 2

This is my design card for the Cheerful stamp pad challenge 89 week 2, where the theme is 'weekend activities'. Please click on the link to see the lovely crafting of the rest of the challenge and join in with your entry here.

For my card I used the BB Kakes 'stitcher fae' image, kindly supplied by Stitchy Bear's Digi Outlet, the sponsor of the challenge. I coloured this with spectrum noir pens, adding Art Institute glitter to her wings. I cut out the image using a Spellbinder marvellous squares die, brushing the edges with peacock feathers distress ink. The main background paper is an old piece of Daisy Bucket and the torn strip is from American Crafts 'amy tangerine' plus one paper pad that I recently bought with a prize voucher. The added 3D embellishments were from an Express Yourself DIY pack.

Creative Blog Hop

I was delighted when a dear crafting friend, Gezzy B tagged me in the Blog Hop. It's my turn today to tag people and join the hop.

The idea is to pass on the joy of creativity and share who we are inspired by.

Here are the answers to the questions I was asked:

1. What am I working on?

I mainly make cards, although I occasionally make scrapbook LOs and other papercrafting items. I am fortunate enough to be on eight different Design Teams, so I'm constantly kept busy with preparing my designs for these. I also run three challenge blogs of my own. As well as making cards for my own use, I sell to raise money for charity so making all my design cards helps add nicely to the stock needed.

A while ago now I promised myself that I would reorganise my craft supplies, having invested in some more storage ... I still need to do much of this.

2. How does my work differ from others in my genre?

I don't have a particular style, but my designs were originally prompted by what I knew would sell, trying to cater for all sorts of taste. The more design work I've taken on, the more variety that has crept into my cardmaking. It's hard for me to tell how much more work differs from others.

3. Why do I write/create what I do?

I'm not in the best of health and I find that crafting helps pain become more bearable. As I've already said, I sell to raise money for charity, which is one of the reasons that I create and, of course, for the design challenge blogs that I belong to.

If I'm honest I would love to be able to spend more time creating just for the sake of it, but time hardly ever permits this ... perhaps one day!

4. How does your writing/creating process work?

I'm not much of a planner when it comes to crafting - I tend to start something and see how it evolves. Of course, there are certain constraints when creating for design teams as there is usually a theme, or following a sketch or colour combo etc

Sometimes I like to sit down with my gelli plate, masks and acrylic paints and just see what happens - I then build up some backgrounds that can be used for future projects, combining with stamping, embossing etc.

I am delighted to tag three lovely craftings that inspire me in so many different ways.

1.  Asha Martins

I've got to know Asha through the Christmas Card Club that I belong to. Just like me, Asha loves to make Christmas cards throughout the year. She is a very talented designer, who contributes so much to the teams she is on, inspiring by so much attention to detail as well as her spark of creativity that always seems to 'hit the spot'.

Asha writes:

'I live in a little village by the sea in Portugal with a supportive husband, 3 dogs and a black kitty. I started crafting and blogging in the autumn of 2011 and haven't looked back since... seriously, my early work is that hideous! My style is eclectic with plenty of stitching. I am a meticulous methodical perfectionist by day and a creative spirited foodie by night.'
2.  Rachel Taylor

Rachel is a 'teamie' on three design teams that I belong to, as well as crafting for a few more teams. Rachel has a variety of styles that she uses to good effect, not only in cardmaking, but in making gifts etc and in sharing her talents in tutorials.

She writes:

'I have been married for 27 years and have 2 grown up children I love all types of crafting I like running blossom cards and hand made gifts which I do from home I also teach classes and sell at craft fairs and do demos and craft parties. I have done one tutorial video at the moment but hope to do more I like to make shaped cards and I love stamping and working with digi stamps I like to do real hand stitching on my cards I am a crafter first and a house wife second lol just love to craft. Crafting is in my bones my motto is keep calm and craft on.'

3.  Helen Nile

I'm fortunate to have Helen on the DT for my Christmas cards extra challenge blog and also on the Glory of Christmas. Helen is a very busy crafter and never fails to inspire with her clean lines and eye for style, as well as flawless colouring. I love her work and was so glad when she became part of my team, giving me the opportunity to know her better.

Helen writes:

I live on the Wirral in the north west of Britain and work as an Activities Coordinator for Abbeyfield which is a charity providing services to the elderly. My job involves organising activities, outings etc for a residential home and two sheltered houses. I love card making and teach weekend workshops for Little Claire. My favourite technique is stamping and I love my Promarkers! My style is very much clean and simple and I love cute as well as floral.''

I do hope that you will visit these lovely ladies' blogs and be inspired by their creativity and talent. Please visit them next Monday when they will be choosing their own inspirational crafters to tag as the Creative Blog Hop continues.

Guest design slot for the Crazy Challenge 174: by the sea

I was chosen as one of the top 3 for the Crazy challenge 171 and as a result I was asked to be their guest designer for the next two challenges.

Crazy challenge 174 'by the sea' is being sponsored by Mygrafico arts and crafts who kindly supplied images for the team to use. I also bought their Pirate Boy clipart set and used some of it to digitally create a background on to which I added the digital image of the pirate boy. I used a sea picture that I found on the internet. Once printed out I coloured him with spectrum noir pens and mounted on to a blue card blank.

Once again I've used a piece of Hunkydory card that had the lovely soft candle picture in the corner. I've kept it simple, so the eye is drawn to the lights, adding cream lace, gems and a sentiment. I then mounted on to a piece of red mirror card before mounting on to the cream card blank.

Sweet Pea Stampers 'shaped card' challenge

It's time for a new challenge on the Sweet pea stampers and for the next two weeks we're asking you to show us a shaped card. Please click on the link and see the gorgeous crafting of the rest of the team and join in the challenge - using a Sweet pea stamp/digi if you have one.

For my design card I sued Silentness (owl version) digi by ching chou cuik (also available as a stamp) coloured with spectrum noir pens.

I have a large box filled with handmade papers, angelhair, mulberry papers etc and I haven't used much of this for years. I thought it was about time that some came out to see the light of day - lol!

So the image is mounted on to a piece of blue angelhair and then on to a piece of white mulberry paper, with the addition of a few gems here and there to give a bit of bling.

Fan-tastic Tuesday challenge 40: summer at the beach

I am excited and privileged to be joining the design team for Fan-tastic Tuesday.

This is my first design team creation, which is for Fan-tastic Tuesday 40: at the beach. Please click on the link to see the lovely crafting of the rest of the team - and we would love to see you joining in the challenge.

I have used Bugaboo Stamps 'beach border' and 'crab boat', kindly supplied by the sponsor of the challenge. I coloured with spectrum  noir pens.

The background paper is DCWV from their summer pack from long ago. The beach hut and bunting are part of a prize from Flourish with a bling for winning a challenge on Emerald Faeries (I had $15 to spend and got a lovely lot of goodies - you'll see more of them in due time). It's a pity that you can't see the lovely shine on the banner and beach hut. The little flip flops are some I've had for a long, long time.

As I am on team B my design card is showing today as part of Crafting musketeers halfway post for challenge 14 - please click on the link to see the lovely crafting of the rest of the team.

For my card I used the Polka Doodles 'office' image that was kindly supplied as Polka Doodles are sponsoring the challenge. You can find the original challenge 14 post here and enter your creation using a stamped image (it can be a digi). I coloured the image with spectrum noir pens and mounted on to an offcut of red mirror card. I created the sentiment on the computer and printed, using another scrap of red mirror card for mounting. Caroling penguins

This is my card for today's Christmas card club challenge - Carol asked us to feature penguins.

I love this Penny Black 'caroling penguins' stamp - I inked with memento tuxedo black and coloured with spectrum noir (not that there was much colouring to do). The background paper is from My Mind's Eye 12 days of Christmas paper pad. The ribbon  is from Crafty Ribbons, part of a prize I received for winning at the Allsorts Birthday week (a pity that most of it has been covered by the image!

I based the card on the sketch given for Atlantic hearts 59:

Some more angels for CCAYR mid-month inspiration

As I said in the previous post, the June 'anegels' challenge continues on Christmas cards all year round and today there is a mid-month post with some inspiration from team members.  You can link your entries here.

This is a card that I showed previously for the Glory of Christmas challenge 34 (you can see my original blogpost here) and thought it might be worth showing for further inspiration for CCAYR mid-month.

CCAYR mid-month inspiration

The June 'anegels' challenge continues on Christmas cards all year round and today there is a mid-month post with some inspiration from team members.  You can link your entries here.

This is my design card for the CCAYR mid-month. I've used a favourite Tin Can Mail angel stamp, inked with versamark and heat embossed with gold detail powder and then mounted on to some gold mirror card. The embossed piece on the side is an offcut from some that was previously run through my eBosser with an Embossalicious folder, with trips of sequins either side.

This is also another card for my CHNC challenge 181: include gold or silver (or both).

CHNC challenge extra for June mid-month inspiration

This is my card for CHNC challenge extra for June mid-month inspiration - please click on the link to see the lovely crafting of the rest of the team - and there's still plenty of time before the end of the month to add your own Christmas creations.

This is also another card for my CHNC challenge 181: include some gold or silver (or both).

The background and the striped card are from an old Kanban kit. The silver foiled panels with the lovely bird and baubles and the strip across the bottom are from My Paper Stash 'frost & feathers'. As is always the case, difficult to get a photo when mirror card is involved.

CHNC challenge 181: include some gold or silver (or both)

For CHNC challenge 181 starting today I'm asking you to include some gold or silver (or both) on your Christmas creations - for more details and to see the sponsors, please click on the link.

I've kept my card simple with gold mirror card for the background, three gold foiled vellum squares some gold and silver glittered Christmas puddings and some silver sentiment strips.

What a nightmare trying to get a half-decent photo when the background is totally mirror card!

Suzy Bee's Bloomin' challenge 33: celebrate

This is my design card for today's Suzy Bee's bloomin' challenge 33, where the theme is 'celebrate' - please click on the link to see the lovely designs of the rest of the team and join in the challenge, which is being sponsored by Bugaboo Stamps, adding the sentiments digitally, mounting the image on silver mirror card.

I've used Bugaboo Stamps 'AKV too Wedding - cut cake', kindly supplied by the sponsor, colouring with spectrum noir pens. The embossed background paper is some that I've had for ages - quite a bundle of similar papers that haven't been touched and I'm not sure why, because they are lovely. I found a scrap of 'congratulations' vellum that I torn to put over the silver mirror offcut. The glittered spotty ribbon is from Crafty Ribbons, part of a prize I received for winning at the Allsorts Birthday week.
